Encore
The real novelty is the introduction of the hatchback model, named Encore. It adopts a body similar to its French cousin, the "Renault 11". It differs from it by the rear lights and the Americanized bumpers, as well as many other elements.
It is also manufactured in the United States in the same factory as the Alliance.
The Encore was intended to be a new tool to conquer the American market. But the Encore would mainly eat into the market share of its sister, the Alliance.
Regarding engines, nothing changes; the "System sentry" (fluid monitoring system) is now offered as an option.
The Alliance itself does not differ from the 1983 model year.
