Renault Alliance 1987

Few changes on this final version of the Alliance.

The engines are the same, the interior evolves little, and the rear end remains unchanged.
At the front, the grille loses its four headlights. The parking lights/turn signals are no longer integrated into the bumpers as on previous versions, but now appear between the grille and the headlights.

The "ENCORE" designation disappears and is replaced by "ALLIANCE hatchback".

The 1987 Alliance was available in several different colors:

  • Olympic White
  • Classic Black
  • Beige - (GTA=Non disp)
  • Sebring Red
  • Grenadine Metallic - (GTA=Non disp)
  • Micra Red Metallic - (GTA=Non disp)
  • Sterling Metallic - (convertible=Opt)
  • Dark Pewter Metallic - (GTA=Non disp)

Some models were reportedly produced for the 1988 version, with a specific chrome grille.
However, apart from this photo (black and white and color), we have found no other documentation.
If you have any information on this subject, please feel free to share it with us.

The Renault GTA but not the Alpine GTA ;)

Starting in 1987, the sporty GTA joined the lineup with a 1965 cm³ "F engine" producing 95 hp. Considered a model in its own right, it is actually just an Alliance powered by a more sporty engine. It features a specific look, reminiscent of the Renault 11 Zender marketed in Europe, as well as modified transmission and suspension.

It was only available as a 2-door coach (coupe) and convertible.
So there was no GTA hatchback (Encore) "Turbo"-styled version.

Just over 3,500 GTA units were produced in 1987 at the AMC plant in Kenosha.
It is powered by the 2.0L F3R engine. A "GTA convertible" was also offered. This model was equipped exclusively with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The coach was sold for $8,999 (for comparison, the Golf GTI was sold for $11,325)

The GTA was presented at the Chicago AutoShow in February 1987 alongside the Medallion and Premier

There were four colors available for the GTA:,
  • Sebring Red
  • Olympic White
  • Classic Black
  • Sterling Metallic - (convertible=Non Disp)
