The Renault Encore Electronic.

Text adapted from the article "1986 Renault Encore Electronic" by Don Sikora II

For the 1986 model year, the Renault Encore received a new Electronic version.
It was available only as a 3-door model and was based on the specifications of the S model, with additional options included in the price. It featured high-tech LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) instrumentation, along with various warning and indicator systems.
Its main distinguishing feature was therefore a new digital instrument cluster combined with a trip computer, very similar to the "Advanced Liquid Crystal Display," or LCD, used in the Renault 11 TXE Electronic offered on the European market.
The colorful display featured a digital speedometer, a scrolling bar-graph tachometer, a multifunction bar-graph display, and an impressive array of warning lights.
The trip computer provided information on average fuel consumption, remaining fuel, distance remaining before running out of fuel, and outside temperature.
However, Consumer Guide noted that "the electronic dash was no great breakthrough either in its display or in the information it provided".
In terms of price, the Electronic ($7,498) was positioned between the Encore LS ($7,310) and the Encore GS ($7,968) in the lineup.

The more powerful 1.7-liter four-cylinder engine, along with a five-speed manual transmission, was standard. In official photographs, the Electronic was generally shown equipped with the attractive optional 14-inch aluminum wheels.
The standard setup used the 13-inch steel wheels from the basic Encore S, slightly dressed up with wheel covers. A small, discreet "ELECTRONIC" sticker was affixed to each front fender, identifying the model.
Inside, the Electronic combined trim elements from both the Alliance and Encore. Attractive "Stratford Stripe" cloth upholstery was standard.

In 1986, Encore sales dropped sharply to 17,671 units. Production figures for each version are not available, but we suspect that production of the Electronic was extremely limited.
In 1987, the Electronic model disappeared. However, the digital dashboard became available as an option on certain Alliance versions (formerly LS/GS models in 1986).
